Garvin Family . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #8

Presently the parents of Anthony GARVIN, 1807-1885, have not been proved but it is thought to be Francis GAVIN and Cecilia GAUGHAN of County Mayo.

Descendants of Francis GARVIN and Cecilia GAUGHAN in Ontario, Canada have kept excellent records.  Family lore, handed down in the Canadian line, tells that the parents, Francis and Cecilia, and a brother Anthony did not emigrate.  A family bible, location currently unknown, is reputed to have additional information.  "My" Anthony fits, age-wise and location, into this line.

GARVIN is a rare name in Mayo and even rarer in the Kilfian Parish of County Mayo.

In Griffith Valuation ca 1856 is an Anthony GARLAND, County Mayo, Cartronrathroe townland with 20 acres of land with house, office & cottage rented from John Ormsby.

Cartronrathroe townland -  Anthony GARVIN appears starting 1855 until 1884.  Anthony's name is then cross-out replaced by Bessy GAVAN.  Bessy's name is replaced by Thomas GAVAN in 1886.  Thomas' name remains until ca 1919 replaced with John GARVAN.  The surname is spelled GARVAN, GARVIN, GAVIN, GAVAN is these records.
